JAWAI
At the heart of an untrammeled wilderness, where leopards roam wild and free, is SUJAN's JAWAI. Designed by the owners, Anjali and Jaisal Singh, JAWAI represents a style that combines subtle opulence with abundant adventure. Staying true to our goals for conservation without compromising comfort, the camp has '9 luxurious tents including one royal suite', each with oodles of space and privacy that rest encapsulated in a landscape of towering granite formations, caves, kopjes, Anogeissus scrub and winding sand riverbeds.
The vibrant Rabari herdsmen who have shared this land with wildlife for centuries endorse the organic and continuing link between local culture and wildlife. This is a relationship that SUJAN is deeply committed to nurturing in the face of rapid change, as a means of fulfilling our commitment to conservation, to cultures and wildlife. It is these experiences that we are proud and delighted to share with guests at JAWAI.
THE STYLE
When we envisioned JAWAI, we wanted to create something contemporary to represent a style that combined subtle opulence with a strong sense of adventure. Inspired by the granite hills of the region, the camp embraces a modern and chic style whilst remaining authentic and true to its location. Originally based on the idea of a movable camp, and with a light footprint, JAWAI is in harmony with its delicate ecosystem.
The use of a muted palette of grey, black and white helps to make the camp one with the sheer natural beauty it resides within. The union of metal and canvas form the backbone of the design, taking JAWAI into a space away from traditional materials.
Anjali and Jaisal Singh designed the 1930s industrial style of tubular brushed steel furniture. It is filled with accessories, like candleholders and lamps, sourced from India based international designer Michael Aram's Botanical Leaf Collection. With much of his work inspired by nature, it seemed the perfect collaboration to compliment the creative vision for JAWAI.
The interiors are carefully matched to include a splash of scarlet red - inspired by the colour of the Rabari turban - set against the monochrome white and black.
LUXURY TENTS
Created with canvas, stainless steel and leather accoutrements, each luxury tent at JAWAI is designed with its own private veranda, equipped with a writing desk and seating area that looks onto unobstructed, spectacular views of the dramatic wilderness around. The use of local stone and stainless steel brings an understated elegance to the camp. Each tent is equipped with a smart and efficient, en suite bathroom.
DINING AND CUISINE
Mealtimes at JAWAI follow the rhythm of safari drives and excursions, with no 'set time' for when guests have to eat. Our stylish dining tent offers inspiring views of the hills. Enjoy delicious buffet style salads and fresh pasta or fish procured from local fishermen, cooked right in front of you in our live kitchen. Dinners around the campfire or the Boma are a time for sharing tales from the day of exploring and for making new friends.
At JAWAI guests can enjoy access to unique and secluded locations for private dining. What could be more dramatic than a granite kopje, which serves as a private dining room overlooking the expanse of the JAWAI wilderness? Breakfasts in the bush and picnics in the wild, luncheons by the lakes and embracing dinners under constellations of an unending sky, make for stunning options. Meals are created using homegrown produce from our own kitchen garden or fresh-farmed ingredients sourced from local farmers.
